The etymology comes from the old Norwegian word dill, which means "sedation", "relaxation" and "comfort", which has a calming effect to alleviate pain. Dill belongs to the Umbelliferae family, also known as fennel. This fennel is different from the sweet fennel and Tibetan fennel used in aromatherapy, and the smell is also different. Dill has a refreshing scent of lemon. It is used as a seasoning for salad dressings in Western cuisine and can also be used to reduce the fishy smell.
